Hank Horton – My Story
I was waiting for her primary doctor visit the next week, however I was worrying about my mom’s health. As her caregiver, I was responsible for making sure she was safe and healthy. She had a blood pressure monitor and her measurements were trending towards low. I ordered a pulse oximeter and when it arrived her Sp02 was 74%-very low! The doctor worked her in and noted her poor vital signs and that she had pitting edema in her lower legs so I rushed her to the ER and she was admitted. She spent 5 days in the hospital and was diagnosed with CHF and aspiration pneumonia.
I am convinced that had she been on a RPM program for her undiagnosed CHF her doctor would have had mechanisms in place to alert them that she may have needed a chest x-ray and that modifications in her medications were needed potentially avoiding a costly and debilitating hospital stay.
